While Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) provide master lists of serial numbers that uniquely identify a module from all other modules provided for a solar PV system, it may be necessary for large installations to map serial numbers on the site once the modules are installed. As modules may be replaced over time, swapping recorded serial numbers is an easy way to quality-control that the correct modules are removed and replaced. This ensures the digital record of the solar PV system is constantly updated and accurate. Further added value is the verification of supply chains for safe harbouring by tracking serial numbers throughout their lifecycle, validation of construction progress and streamlining of warranty claims.
